2 D.1 Project description Objective The scientific goal of CIR is to identify mechanisms of immune dysregulation that contribute to immune-mediated disease (www.cir.uio.no). Three models of autoimmune and allergic disease are studied in detail to identify novel mechanisms amenable to therapeutic intervention. Establishment of the Centre has brought together five research groups with complementary skills and expertise. In the following period, our research will be organised into work packages which interconnects the three disease models and combines basic research with research using both animal and human experimental approaches. The research and training infrastructure established at CIR over the last 3 years include world class visiting professors and guest lectures as well as internal seminars and work shops. These activities are continually being developed, and provide an exciting environment for training of students and post-docs. The Centre became a FOCIS CoE in February 2010 and is now mainly co-localised in a University Hospital environment. This gives the Centre a unique opportunity to further develop and implement agents for use in immune intervention and therapy. The aim is to make CIR even more attractive as a working place for young talented scientists and to continue to undertake high quality research.
